Organizations are increasingly facing changing business environments marked by turbulence, uncertainty, novelty, and ambiguity. In contrast to a traditional strategy which plans how to shape the future, strategic thinking and reframing through scenario planning identifies new opportunities in the face of disruptive contextual changes and helps to prepare organizations for multiple, possible futures.
During this three - day program , you will strengthen your capabilities to inspire others , lead to sustainable long - term performance , and execute ideas and plans .
This program will follow the rigorous methodological and practical steps outlined in the Oxford Scenario Planning Approach. Representatives of organizations will question long-held assumptions, correct decision-making biases, review existing strategies, and reach out to multiple stakeholders through a relatively new strategic tool-scenario planning, also sometimes called futures of foresight thinking.
View moreWe look at case examples of how very few organizations had predicted the externally triggered changes brought about by, for instance, the oil crises in the 1970s, the fall of the Soviet Union in the late 1990s, 9-11 in the early 2000s, the global recession in 2007-8, and currently, the Coronavirus pandemic or even later, the complete and rapid takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban.
Through interactive team-based exercises, participants will develop colorful images and moving stories of possible futures that could transpire due to unexpected but plausible events.
Such black swan events are rare but have far-reaching consequences for organizations. An anticipation of future threats and opportunities can factor into decisions one can take today to improve organizational resilience. At the core of this approach is critical dialogue and debate among various stakeholders to creatively imagine multiple futures and generate strategic options for decision-makers. The possibilities generated in SP can feed into the blue ocean, specifically the Eliminate-Reduce-Raise-Create (ERRC) Grid.
